chapter 3

Arvind flipped through the profiles Priya had handed him, his face growing darker with each page. The men in the profiles were all in their forties, average-looking, and most didn't even have stable jobs. He glared at Trisha, his voice thick with disapproval. "Some of these men are my age! Trisha, how could you introduce such men to Priya?"

Trisha stiffened. She had paid someone to fake the photos and profiles, never expecting Priya—who usually kept to herself—to dig up the real information. Quickly, she put on an innocent face. "Arvind, I don't know how this happened! I made sure to pick the best men for Priya. It must be a mistake from the matchmaking agency!"

Priya couldn't help but smirk. "Auntie Trisha, you didn't even verify these men's backgrounds, yet you confidently called them 'high-quality.' I may not be your biological daughter, but is my lifelong happiness so unimportant to you? Dad, you wouldn't be proud if I married someone like this, right?"

Trisha stammered, "No, that's not what I meant..."

But Arvind had heard enough. He threw the profiles at Trisha, his voice sharp with disappointment. "Enough! From now on, you stay out of Priya's marriage matters. I'm freezing your bank card this month. Spend less time wasting money and more time reflecting on your actions!"

Trisha paled. "Arvind, you've misunderstood me..."

Arvind ignored her, turning to Priya with a guilty expression. "Priya, I'm sorry for putting you through this. You don't have to go on any more blind dates."

Priya smiled softly. "Thank you, Dad."

As Arvind headed upstairs, Trisha shot Priya a venomous glare. Priya, unfazed, added casually, "Oh, by the way, Auntie Trisha, I thought you'd be thrilled with the 'high-quality' men you picked. So, I gave them Shreya's private number. I hope she hits it off with one of them!"

Trisha's eyes widened in horror. "What? How dare you!"

Shreya, her precious daughter, was a rising Bollywood star. Those mediocre men were beneath her! Priya, however, was already yawning and heading upstairs to bed, leaving Trisha fuming.

Just as Trisha was about to storm off to plead with Arvind, the doorbell rang. Who could it be at this hour?

Opening the door, she was met with a man in a sharp suit, flanked by a line of men in black carrying lavish gifts. They looked intimidating, and Trisha grew wary. "Who are you looking for?"

The man, Kunal, bowed slightly. "Mrs. Mehta, we're here to deliver betrothal gifts from Mr. Rajput to Ms. Mehta."

"Betrothal gifts? Mr. Rajput? Who is that?"

"Mr. Arjun Rajput," Kunal clarified.

Trisha's eyes nearly popped out of her head. "Arjun Rajput? As in the Rajput family—the billionaires?"

Kunal nodded. "Correct."

Trisha's mind raced. "You mean the heir of the Rajput family is interested in my daughter?"

Kunal hesitated for a moment before replying, "If that's how you understand it, then yes."

Trisha's heart soared. Shreya, her superstar daughter, must have caught Arjun's eye! It was only natural—Shreya was beautiful, talented, and famous. But this proposal was so sudden!

Seeing Trisha's stunned silence, Kunal asked, "Does Mrs. Mehta disapprove of this marriage?"

Trisha quickly shook her head. "No, no! It's just that my daughter isn't home right now. For such an important matter, let's wait until she returns..."

Kunal cut her off. "Mrs. Mehta, your daughter has already accepted Mr. Rajput's engagement ring. You only need to accept these gifts."

Trisha's jaw dropped. Shreya had accepted Arjun's ring? Had they been dating in secret? That girl! She'd landed such a catch and hadn't even told her!

Trisha quickly invited Kunal inside, but he declined. "In three days, Mr. Rajput will personally come to marry Ms. Mehta."

"Three days? Isn't that too rushed?" Trisha exclaimed.

Kunal assured her, "Mrs. Mehta, rest assured. Mr. Rajput has arranged everything for the wedding. It will be the grandest event, and Ms. Mehta will be treated like royalty."

Trisha's excitement bubbled over. Once Shreya married into the Rajput family, she'd be set for life! The wealth, the status—it was beyond her wildest dreams.

"Alright! We'll be ready to send our daughter off in three days!" Trisha declared.

Kunal nodded and left, the men in black depositing the gifts in the living room before following him out.

Arvind, hearing the commotion, came downstairs. "Who was here? And what's all this?"

Trisha was practically vibrating with joy as she admired the luxurious gifts. "Arvind! Wonderful news! Arjun Rajput has proposed to Shreya! Look at all these gifts from the Rajput family—each one is priceless!"

Arvind's eyes widened. "Arjun Rajput? The CEO of Rajput Industries? The one who just returned from abroad?"

Trisha nodded eagerly. "Yes, him! Can you believe it? Our Shreya is going to be a Rajput!"

Arvind clutched his chest, overwhelmed. "Good heavens! I never imagined our Shreya would catch the eye of someone like Arjun Rajput!"

Trisha beamed with pride. "Now, whose daughter is this?"

Arvind chuckled. "You've raised an exceptional girl, Trisha. I'm sorry I doubted you earlier."

Trisha waved him off smugly. "Oh, it's fine. I just want the best for both our daughters."

But inside, she was gloating. That little brat Priya thinks she can outsmart me? Just wait until Shreya becomes a Rajput. Then we'll see who's on top!

The next morning, Trisha called Shreya, demanding she come home immediately. Shreya arrived, annoyed. "Mom, what's the emergency? I have a shoot this afternoon!"

Trisha grabbed her hands, her excitement barely contained. "Shreya, it's about your wedding to Arjun Rajput!"

Shreya frowned, confused. "Wedding? What wedding? I don't even know Arjun Rajput!"

Trisha's heart sank. She quickly explained about the proposal and the gifts. "Shreya, how could you not know the heir of the Rajput family? Didn't you accept his engagement ring?"

Shreya stared at her mother, baffled. "Mom, I have no idea what you're talking about!"
